        少なくとも オタクとかアニメファンという枠を超えて世間一般レベルでヒットしたのは初代だけだと思う

        初代でもファンが思っているほど世間一般での名作のカテゴリーに入っていないだろう。
        玩具としての知名度は最高峰でファースト、SDガンダムで世代的に浸透、
        インパクト重視の懐かしセリフ等で偏った知名度はあるけど、ストーリー等の作品評価で得た知名度ではないし、あくまで一過性のネタでしかない．．．
        アニメ好きの2～3割程度が好きな、マニア受けする作品ぐらいが妥当で、
        そこを理解して話題にしないと一般人にはひかれるから要注意、ぐらいが作品評価。

        ファミコンも存在してなくてTVやアニメが話題の中心だったからな
        子供で集まるとガンダムごっこをやってたわ
        今思い返すと初代は時代劇のような殺陣でMSの数も少なくて名場面が多いから子供がマネして遊びにしやすかったように思う

        Wikipediaで確認したところ当時の最大手アニメ誌である（まだ腐向け誌になる前の）アニメージュの人気投票で、普通に放映当時のアニメで一番人気あったヒロインが、フォウ・ムラサメだった。カミーユも（なぜか）翌年の人気投票で男性キャラ１位になってた。（ちなみに同年の女性キャラ人気１位はエルピー・プル）

        Ζの不評は、ファーストとあまりに異なる作風故で、今より入れ替わりの早かった当時の新たなアニメファンには当時からきっちり評価されてたって事じゃないのかな
