プラネテスでもネタにされてたけど、空気環境の悪化に加えて酸素燃焼って、
スペースノイドにとって悪どころじゃないだろ。
加えてタバコは中毒性高すぎて、医療用マリファナ与えて治療するくらい

現代の米軍などは喫煙がもたらす健康被害・心肺機能低下による戦闘力の低下を問題視して禁煙となっているが一般的に軍隊における喫煙率は高い。
勤務が生死に直結する高ストレス環境なので、その解消策として古来より酒・女と並んで付き物。
晩年の金正日が我侭から（愛煙家で自分が健康を害した）全軍禁煙令を出すも横流しや裏取引、果てには強盗騒ぎまでが頻発し軍の風紀紊乱が著しくなった結果、禁煙令は「無視」されるに至ったとさえいう。

エヴァでさえ喫煙シーンはあるんだぞ、近年でもコナンや銀魂、NARUTOにさえある

とここまで書いて気づいたが監督の個人的志向かもな
思い出せる限りでは飲酒シーンは各作品にあるが喫煙シーンは記憶に無い

気になったので調べてみたがアニメやドラマでの喫煙シーンがうるさく言われるようになったのは、どうやら2016年の日本禁煙学界の申し入れ以降らしい。
NARUTOや名探偵コナンにも喫煙シーンが存在することから、それまでTVアニメに規制は無かったと言えるだろう。

富野監督について調べると自身は愛煙家（ヘビースモーカー）であるが喫煙シーンが演出としては安易にすぎるとの考えにより、その作品には喫煙シーンが存在しないそうだ。
派生作品には喫煙シーンが存在する。たとえばサンダーボルトには一人立つのがやっとの喫煙スペースで煙草を吸いながら大型艦の利点は喫煙スペースが存在することだとジオン軍人が述べるシーンや連邦艦の艦長が会議室で禁煙を無視して喫煙するシーンなどがある。
0083にもあったような気がするが見返す気にはなれないｗ
