GN粒子を作劇の根幹にするなら見せた方がいいってところだったりダブルオーでのガンダムと擬似太陽炉が出るまでの機体との区別と同じ理由で商売面のためにだったりほぼメタ的な理由だったんじゃないかな
2期からは三角錐があること前提のデザインだけど

MGヴァーチェのLEDで光るGNドライヴは大きさ同じだけど付属してる太陽炉の方は一回り小さいよね

クアンタのやつ見ると分かるけど、GNドライヴ本体はコンパクト。
エクシアやダブルオーのとんがりコーンほ補機も内蔵したケース。

プラモのGNドライブはLEDユニットと交換用のスペースにしてるから設定上の大きさとは何の関係も無い場合があるからなあ
だいたいGNドライブの本当の本体って中身の円柱形の部分だから、コーン型とスリースラスターに比べると一気に薄っぺらく見えるしな
単純な大きさって意味なら、隠れてる部分含めても00ガンダムの肩アーマーの厚さで入る程度だよ
